Advice from a prominent criminal lawyer
The sentence for drug trafficking is severe.
In Malaysia and Singapore it is death by hanging.
In Indonesia it is death by firing squad and in Vietnam it is death by lethal injection. At the minimum there are long years of imprisonment and even canning.
Now, knowing the severe penalties for drug trafficking, here are some do’s and don’t’s when at the airport:
- Imagine and treat everyone aside from your family members as possible drug traffickers. Never engage in any communication however small with anyone at the airport. Worst, sharing a table or having a drink. Always remember, there are people keeping watch and monitoring and you could inadvertently be assumed to be part of the drug syndicate.
- Never ever assist and help carry a stranger’s luggage. If a person is capable of travelling, he is also fit enough to carry his luggage. It does not matter, if the person is old and infirm, she is an old lady in a wheelchair, he is wearing a kopiah, she is dressed as a nun or you recognised him as a lawmaker. Carrying or helping to carry another’s luggage is a strictly a no.
- Never ever stop to help pick up any item dropped by anyone. Even if it was a child who dropped her doll. Remember this, you do not know what could be inside the doll. Same goes for someone “accidentally” dropping the handbag or hand luggage or Handphone or whatever items. You simply don’t want any finger print of your on the fallen item. Always remember, if he dropped it, he can jolly well pick it up.
- It is also the same when in the aircraft. There is absolutely no need to assist anyone to put or take out their hand luggage or any item from the overhead compartment.
- Unless, they are your family, never walk together with any stranger or if any stranger is trying to tag along and walk with you, simply stop and let the person walk past.
- At the carousel, always focus and keep a lookout and remove only your luggage and once you take your luggage, don’t linger but start walking.
- Lastly, at all times be alert. normanfernandez
