Kaitan Aktiviti Solar dan Letusan Volkano : Part 2.
1.Tempoh rendahnya aktiviti solar iaitu kurangnya sunspot pada permukaan matahari dalam beberapa tahun/kitaran solar memberi kesan kepada iklim bumi (penyejukkan) seperti Maunder Minimum (1645-1715), Dalton Minimum (1790-1830) dan Gleissberg Minimum (1880-1914).
2. Selain mengalami penurun suhu, tempoh solar minimum tersebut juga mencatatkan peristiwa letusan volkano yang sangat memberi kesan kepada bumi iaitu Letusan Tambora pada 1815 (Dalton Minimum) dan Letusan Krakatau pada 1883 (Gleissberg).
3.Berbanding Krakatau, Tambora lebih memberi kesan kepada hidupan bumi menyamai letusan Lake Taupo, New Zealand pada sekitar 180 SM. Indeks Letusan Volkano (VEI) Tambora adalah 7/8 berbanding Krakatau (6/8). Letusan Mt. St. Helen pada tahun 1980 pula 5/8.
4. Letusan tambora pada 1815 telah menyebabkan Hemisfera Utara tidak mempunyai musim panas dan masalah kebuluran pada tahun 1816 dengan suhu global turun 0.4-0.7C. Letusan dipercayai sekuat 800 megatan TNT (Hiroshima 0.2 megatan).
5. Letusan Tambora dianggarkan membebaskan kira-kira 100 km padu debu, tefra dan aerosol serta 60 megatan gas sulfur ke udara dan tersebar meluas ke beberapa bahagian dunia. Pada tahun 1816, dengan keadaan musim sejuk yang berpanjangan, ramai yang terkandas dan ‘terperam’ di dalam rumah dan daripada situ lahirlah karya atau ilham cerita Frankenstein, Dracula, Vampire dan sebagainya.
6. Letusan Tambora kekal menjadi ingatan umat manusia dengan bencana yang dibawanya serta memburukkan lagi keadaan penyejukkan bumi. Bumi kini sekali lagi berada dalam tempoh aktiviti solar yang lemah sejak 2010 di mana amplitud bilangan sunspot hanya mencapai 100-150 bagi kitaran ke-24. Bagi kitaran ke-25 juga mungkin sama atau lebih rendah berbanding Kitaran ke-24.
7. Persoalannya mungkinkah akan ada letusan volkano yang kuat (VEI 7-9) dalam tempoh solar minimum ini (Eddy Minimum, 2020-2055)? Hanya masa yang akan menentukan. Sejarah lampau telah memberikan tanda ingatan. The past is the key to the present. Bagaimana keadaan deep solar minimum mempengaruhi aktiviti seismik tidak akan dihuraikan dalam catatan ini.

Relationships of Solar Activity and Volkano eruptions: Part 2.
