Rashes on children’s feet
” Doctor, my child has rashes on his feet and back. The doctor told it was a disease-Schonlein Purple (HSP) disease. Is it dangerous?”
Henoch-Schonlein Purple (HSP) is a disease that involves inflammation on small blood channels. Usually happening among children between 2-12 years old especially the boys. The blood channel involved is the blood channel on the skin, intestines, kidneys and joints.
The main sign is a rashes on the skin, sometimes there is bruises especially on the feet and back.
Hsp will always end up after four to six weeks. It may last for a few months but not going on for a long time. It’s not a permanent chronic disease.
Only if it involves an important organ such as kidney and intestines, regular inspection needs to be done to monitor the condition of the patient so that it doesn’t get worse.
The cause and cause of this disease is still unknown.
There is only a theory that says it is a problem problem in which the body resistant system against or attacks cells on blood channels on the organs involved, causing inflammation and small leaks on the blood channel. By a little bit of a controlled bleeding.
There is also a theory that says the attack of the durability system on the body cells occurs after the virus is successful “hacking” memory of our durability system so that it is confused between friends (our own body cells) with opponents (virus cells). This causes our durability system to attack cells on the blood channel, but not long. After realizing this mistake, our durability system will stop the attack and this problem will end.
That’s why most case cases happen after more than a week the virus attack causes cough (or infection on the respiratory tract).
Some hsp cases linked to vaccination for typhoid, chorea, yellow fever, measles, or hepatitis B. It is also caused by nutrition factors, medications, chemicals from the environment, extreme weather change and insect bites.
Common Signs of patient-schonlein patients are rashes, pain and swelling in the joint. Other than that the patient is complaining about stomach pain (involving blood channel on the intestines) and there is blood in urine (kidney involving).
Usually before the signs appear, the patient has experienced headaches, fever and muscle pain, two three weeks earlier.
Hsp rarely involve organs such as brain, heart and lungs.
There is no medication or treatment specially for this disease. Doctors may give medicine to ease fever or pain-resistant medicine. Steroids may be given if the doctor thinks it needs to be given.
Rashes and joint pain will usually disappear after four to six weeks and does not cause organ damage. It may repeat and monitoring organ function especially kidney needs to be done.
Hopefully it will be useful.
