Why is the prophet beristighfar?
===========
1. Sheikh Al-Dahlawi mentioned that there are Muslim masters who feel curious why the prophet often beristighfar while his majesty has forgiven his sins. Sheikh Al-Dahlawi says:
Scientists have confused the meaning and interpretation of this Hadith
” Indeed (part) the ulama felt curious during this hadith (Hadith Istighfar Rasulullah).” this is because we are all ready to be informed that the prophet has been given forgiveness to his majesty, even his majesty is maksum. Then what else is the istighfar for?
2. According to the legit history of Muslim, Rasulullah is said to sink in the happiness of beristighfar. The Word of his majesty Prophet:
It’s a legan on my heart, and I ask forgiveness of God a hundred times a day
” indeed my heart is sinking in the joy of beristighfar. And truly i beristighfar to Allah every day a hundred times.” (hr Muslim)
3. There is a problem here, why is the Prophet obedient and drowning his soul in begging for forgiveness for Allah while His Majesty is the maksum.
According to al-Imam Al-Nawawi, his majesty beristighfar is not for himself but for his people that we are! Says Al-Imam Al-Nawawi:
He is important because of his nation and what he has seen after him, so he will forgive them
” it is due to the the of the prophet against his people, he is watching affairs that will befall his people and then his majesty beristighfar for them. (Al-Nawawi, Sharh Muslim).
4. Imagine, the prophet himself asks for istighfar for us because of the sins and mistakes that we do. Don’t we believe in the prophet who asks for istighfar for his people while we ourselves rarely beristighfar?
5. According to al-Qadi Iyyad, he says istighfar all the time because he is worried there is a time that his heart is careless from remembering Allah.
It was his business to work on him, and if he relieves him or he doesn’t count it as a sin and ask forgiveness of him
” indeed, the heart of the prophet is always in the state of dhikr (remembering Allah), but when he is teralpa or lost for a moment, then he immediately beristighfar because he is careless from remembering god.” (Sharh Muslim)
6. Mashaallah! So high the faith of a prophet. There is no time for his heart to be alpa from remembering Allah. If it is lost for a while, he immediately asks for forgiveness from Allah.
7. Even Al-Nawawi insists that the istighfar of the prophet is the manifestation of his majesty’s devotion to God, which is to subdue his whole soul and his body just because of God as a sign of a grateful servant.
8. If the prophet himself beristighfar for us every day, let us know if we ourselves do not beristighfar every day. Even if the prophet himself beristighfar to borne the nature of God and thank God, then we need to give thanks to Allah.
May Allah guide us.
